OCC Finalist Spotlight – Meet savearth!

We are excited to introduce one of the finalists of the 2025 Ocean Community Challenge: savearth!

Based in Portugal, this start-up leverages AI to help hotels reduce guest water consumption through a smart Water Management solution that conserves water while cutting operational costs.

Let’s take a closer look at how this technology-driven solution actually works. 🚿💧🖲️

Hotels around the world are facing a costly and unsustainable challenge: excessive water use by guests. The average hotel guest uses 150 liters of water per shower, four times the recommended amount. This overconsumption not only strains one of our planet’s most precious resources but also significantly inflates utility bills and accelerates wear on plumbing infrastructure. The result is an estimated $6 billion in global losses annually due to water and energy overuse, making smart water management an urgent necessity for the industry.

AI-Powered Smart Device
AI-Powered Smart Device

Savearth has developed the hospitality industry's first and only AI-powered smart shower system, combining real-time water monitoring, guest engagement, and gamified rewards in a simple, scalable solution. Its plug-and-play device uses AI-sound technology to measure water usage through the sound of the shower, no plumbing changes or invasive installations required.

Unlike traditional infrastructure-focused solutions, Savearth’s B2B2C approach directly engages guests by providing real-time feedback during showers, gently nudging them toward more eco-friendly behavior. Guests are rewarded with redeemable points for conserving water, enhancing both satisfaction and loyalty. For hotels, Savearth integrates seamlessly with property management systems, offering actionable sustainability data to reduce costs, meet ESG goals, and improve operational efficiency.

With Savearth, a 300-room hotel can save over 100,000 liters of water each month, cutting fresh water use, lowering energy consumption, and reducing wastewater. Together, these savings take real pressure off local ecosystems.

We’re proud to support savearth as they revolutionise water management in the hospitality industry, driving smarter sustainability and meaningful impact at scale.  🏨🚿🌊
