EU Pledges Over €300 Million for Ocean Conservation

At the Our Ocean Conference in Busan, South Korea, the European Union announced over €301 million in new funding to advance global ocean sustainability. The investments target key areas including the sustainable blue economy, marine pollution, marine protected areas, digital ocean initiatives, sustainable fisheries, and ocean-climate action. Notable commitments include €120 million for ocean governance and blue economy development in African and Pacific regions, €65.5 million to combat marine pollution, and €40 million to support marine biodiversity and the ratification of the High Seas Treaty. The EU also pledged €30 million toward its Digital Twin Ocean project and additional support for sustainable fisheries and climate knowledge-sharing.
