Ocean Community Sweden launches in Stockholm
Connecting & activating Sweden’s Blue Innovation ecosystem
On 26 August, Ocean Community Nordic officially launched, bringing together more than 70 people from across Sweden’s ocean innovation ecosystem at EY Doberman's beautiful waterfront location.

Founders, companies, researchers, investors, public institutions and ecosystem builders came together around one central question:
How do we turn Sweden’s ocean potential into stronger collaboration, faster innovation and real-world impact?
The launch marked the beginning of a new chapter for Ocean Community in the Nordics, and the start of building a connected platform where ideas, knowledge, capital, technology and people can meet.

From strong actors to a stronger ecosystem
Sweden already has extraordinary capabilities across maritime innovation, clean energy, advanced technology, and sustainability. The opportunity is to connect those capabilities more deliberately. Ocean Community is the platform for exactly that, not to launch another network alongside others, but an ecosystem designed to help activate it.
Our ambition is simple: We connect. We activate. We accelerate. We build what comes next.
The launch brought this ambition to life. We heard perspectives on the European ocean agenda and Sweden’s role within it, while companies and innovators demonstrated how quickly the blue economy is already evolving.

Across the room, one message became clear: the next generation of ocean solutions will not emerge from individual sectors working in isolation.
It will be built at the intersections between technology, science, industry, policy, finance and entrepreneurship.
Six Blue Innovation Arenas
Ocean Community Nordic is organising around six interconnected Blue Innovation Arenas:
Food
How can we produce more nutritious food while reducing pressure on land, freshwater and marine ecosystems?
Materials & Products
How can ocean resources, biotechnology and circular design create the materials and products of the future?
Mobility, Shipping & Ports
How can clean vessels, propulsion, energy infrastructure, ports and logistics become part of an integrated zero-emission maritime system?
Energy
How can offshore wind, wave, tidal and other ocean-based energy solutions contribute to a resilient renewable energy system?
Water & Coastal Resilience
How can we protect communities, infrastructure and ecosystems while creating smarter ways to manage water?
Ocean Intelligence, Safety & Security
How can data, sensors, autonomous systems and digital technologies help us understand, protect and manage the ocean?

These arenas are not intended as separate silos. The greatest opportunities often sit between them; Energy connects to mobility; Data connects to every arena; New materials affect food, infrastructure and transport; Water resilience increasingly depends on intelligence, engineering and nature-based solutions. That interconnectedness is precisely where an ecosystem becomes powerful.
Blue Capital Orchestration
We will also launch Blue Capital Orchestration, a cross-arena initiative designed to activate more private capital and better connect existing funding with high-potential solutions across all six Blue Innovation Arenas.
The goal is to help more viable ocean innovations access the right capital, at the right stage, and accelerate their path from solution to scale.
Innovation already happening
Throughout the evening, Swedish companies and ecosystem actors gave us a glimpse of what is already being built, from electric maritime mobility and wave energy to sustainable seafood production, water innovation, ocean intelligence and new technologies for industry, the launch demonstrated that the transition to a blue economy is not a distant vision, it is already underway.

Companies including Candela, CorPower Ocean, OE Systems, Smögenlax, Mimbly, Fuse Energy, Sea Technology, Ocean Risk Intelligence and Buyore represented just some of the innovations emerging across the arenas.
The challenge is no longer to generate more ideas, but to enable strong ideas to move fasterto implementation, connecting with the right partners and and capital to create the conditions for scale.

Building the ecosystem together
Ocean Community is built on participation, and during the launch, we invited everyone in the room to consider how they wanted to engage: as leaders, contributors, partners, experts, innovators, investors or ecosystem builders.
Because this cannot be built by one organisation.
We are not building this ecosystem for its members. We are building it together.
The launch was therefore not the destination. It was the starting point.
Next: Activate
The next Ocean Community Nordic ecosystem gathering will take place in Stockholm on
26 November 2026 under the theme: ACTIVATE where we will move from introducing the ecosystem to working within it.

The gathering will deepen collaboration across the six Blue Innovation Arenas, identify concrete opportunities for joint action and introduce the next phase of our Nordic programmes. This will also include a first detailed presentation of the Baltic Sea Challenge, planned for launch in January 2027 and built on the model of the global Ocean Community Challenge.
The ambition is to bring together challenges, innovators, experts, industry partners and investors around solutions that can create measurable impact for the Baltic Sea.
Welcome to the Ocean Age
The ocean is becoming one of the defining innovation arenas of this century.
Energy. Food. Water. Mobility. Materials. Climate resilience. Data. Security.
Many of the systems humanity now needs to redesign intersect with the ocean.
Sweden has the science, technology, companies and capabilities to play an important role in what comes next.
Our mission is to connect them.
